Court seizes assets of Maradona’s lawyer, sisters

Date:

Reports from Argentina indicate that a court has ordered the seizure of assets belonging to Leopoldo Luque, the late Diego Maradona’s personal doctor, and his two sisters. The decision is part of an ongoing investigation and legal proceedings into the death of the football legend.

Leopoldo Luque, a neurosurgeon, is one of several medical professionals facing charges of negligent homicide in connection with Maradona’s death in November 2020. A medical board’s report concluded that Maradona’s care was “inappropriate, deficient, and reckless,” and that he would have had a better chance of survival with adequate treatment in a proper medical facility.

The asset seizure, which also includes the properties of Luque’s sisters, appears to be a measure to secure potential reparations and fines should the defendants be found guilty. The case has been subject to multiple delays, with a trial that began in March 2025 being annulled after a judge was removed. The trial is now set to restart with new judges.

Maradona’s death has led to a complex legal battle involving his medical team, family, and former associates. The ongoing court proceedings and the seizure of assets underscore the seriousness of the charges and the legal system’s efforts to seek accountability for the circumstances surrounding the icon’s passing.
