Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has praised the critical role of teachers in shaping education and society, highlighting their invaluable contributions to the state’s progress.1 In a press statement released on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo emphasized that “the future of a society is intrinsically linked to the quality of its teachers and the quality of teaching they provide.”
Soludo noted that since his administration took office, it has prioritized education to combat historical neglect of the sector.2 He pointed to several key achievements, including:
- Teacher Recruitment: The government successfully recruited 8,115 teachers through a competitive process that attracted applicants from 18 states across Nigeria.3 He also stated that more teachers would be recruited soon.
- Improved Metrics: The governor highlighted that literacy and numeracy have improved by over 40%, and enrollment rates have surged in the state’s schools.
- Free Education: Soludo’s administration has implemented a free education policy from early childhood care to junior secondary school, which has helped eliminate financial barriers for students.4
- Technology Integration: The government is working to integrate technology, such as laptops, solar power, and e-learning tools, into classrooms to promote a knowledge-based economy and equip students for the digital age.5
To honor teachers, the Anambra State government declared Tuesday, October 7, a school-free day to celebrate and appreciate educators.6 This was done because World Teachers’ Day in 2025 fell on a Sunday.7
