Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has vowed to pursue a fresh legal action against her colleague, Lizzy Anjorin, following the recent dismissal of her N1 billion defamation lawsuit. The dismissal, which was celebrated by Anjorin as a victory, was not based on the merits of the case but on a procedural technicality.
A Lagos State High Court, sitting in Osborne, had dismissed the defamation suit filed by Iyabo Ojo, citing a “fundamental flaw in the originating processes.” The judge ruled that the suit was “incompetent” because the Writ of Summons was not properly signed by Iyabo Ojo’s counsel, rendering it invalid. As a result, the court declared that it lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and awarded a cost of N500,000 against Ojo’s lawyer.
In response, Iyabo Ojo took to her social media to clarify the situation, stating that the case was thrown out on a technicality and not because she was wrong. She emphasized that the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) judge had advised both parties to settle peacefully, but her lawyer’s failure to follow the proper procedure led to the dismissal.
Iyabo Ojo has since stated that she is not deterred by the setback and will refile the case. The long-standing feud between the two actresses began in 2023 when Ojo filed an initial N500 million defamation suit against Anjorin, demanding a public apology and retraction of allegedly false claims made on social media. The dispute has been a subject of intense public and media attention, with both actresses frequently engaging in online spats. Iyabo Ojo’s decision to pursue a new lawsuit signals her determination to get justice and hold Lizzy Anjorin accountable for her statements.
