Former Senate President Adolphus Wabara has publicly backed the campaign led by activist Omoyele Sowore for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.1
In a solidarity letter to Sowore dated October 13, 2025, Wabara, who is also the Chairman of the PDP’s Board of Trustees, commended the efforts of those speaking up for justice and national reconciliation.2 Although he is currently out of the country for a medical trip and cannot attend the planned protest, he stated that he is “with you in spirit and in full support of every peaceful effort aimed at securing justice and national reconciliation.”3
The campaign, spearheaded by Sowore, is a planned nationwide protest scheduled for October 20, 2025, to demand Kanu’s immediate and unconditional release.4 Sowore has been actively mobilizing for the protest and has called on prominent political figures from the South-East, including governors and lawmakers, to join the movement.5
Wabara’s support adds a notable voice to the growing calls for Kanu’s release, which have also been backed by other prominent Nigerians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.6
