Police silent on my daughter’s killer’s prosecution – Father of slain FUNAAB student

Date:

The father of the late Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) student, Christianah Idowu, has publicly lamented the continued silence and lack of updates from the police and judicial authorities regarding the prosecution of his daughter’s alleged killer, more than a year after her death.

Key Points of the Father’s Plea:

  • The Victim and Suspect: The deceased, Christianah Idowu, a 300-level Business Administration student, was murdered in 2024 by a suspect identified as Ayomide Adeleye, a fellow student, after she was reportedly lured to his home in Ita Oluwo, Ogun State. The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime and extorting money from the victim’s mother.
  • Lack of Communication: The father, Mr. Oluwafemi Idowu, expressed deep frustration, stating he has been “kept in the dark” since the initial court sitting in September 2024. He fears the case may be intentionally delayed or abandoned.
  • Uncertainty over Suspect: His main worry is the lack of information on the suspect’s status, noting, “I don’t even know if the boy has been released or granted bail.”
  • Official Clarification: While the father remains concerned, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) had previously issued a statement in January 2025 confirming that the suspect, Ayomide Adeleye, was duly remanded at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos, pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).
  • Call for Justice: Mr. Idowu appealed to Nigerians and authorities to intervene and ensure the justice system handles the case properly based on the strong evidence against the accused, stressing that justice for his daughter is crucial for restoring public trust.

The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting issues surrounding the slow pace of justice and lack of transparent communication with victims’ families in Nigeria.
