The Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved Governor Umar Namadi’s request to access an N84 billion Federal Government-backed facility aimed at financing critical infrastructure projects across the state.

Speaker of the House, Rt Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, announced the approval after reading the governor’s correspondence during plenary.

He explained that the intervention package is part of a federal government arrangement under which N252 billion will be released monthly to the 36 states, with each state expected to receive N7 billion every month.

According to the Speaker, the cumulative allocation for each state over a 12-month period amounts to N84 billion dedicated to infrastructure and development projects.

Dangyatin further stated that the Assembly approved the governor’s request to commence the process of accessing the facility.

He said all interested states are expected to obtain the funds in bulk through commercial banks of their choice, while the federal government will undertake the repayment on a monthly basis.

The facility is expected to boost the execution of key development projects in Jigawa State, particularly in the areas of road construction, healthcare delivery, water supply, education, agriculture and rural electrification.

The fund is also expected to strengthen the state government’s efforts to improve public services and enhance residents’ living standards through sustainable infrastructure development.
