Daddy Freeze rarely needs an excuse to insert himself into a Davido conversation, he has weighed in on the singer’s paternity saga, his dental surgery and no shortage of other Davido-adjacent controversies over the years. His latest post follows the same pattern, except this time he is not the one making the argument. He is amplifying G.U Abraham’s post, telling his followers that trouble tends to follow an artist once they have made it, before asking a direct question: ‘does the Abraham have a point and should Davido actually do this?’
The clip he shared features G.U Abraham who says their issue isn’t with the music, he calls “Unavailable” a favourite and praise the tracklist generally of Oriade album but with who actually gets to see it performed live. G.U Abraham central claim is he never had a chance of attending any of Davido’s previous shows even being a top fan and estimates that 70% of Davido’s fans did not either. Not because the shows were bad, they are careful to add, but because touring puts a hard limit on who can attend. Some fans cannot afford to travel to a tour stop. Others can afford it but do not have the time. And some, they argue, simply do not enjoy crowded arenas and would rather watch from home. Not everyone with the money has the time, not everyone with the time wants to stand pressed against strangers for four hours, we’ve survived Lagos traffic, but being pressed is different suffering. And Davido with global fanbase is, by definition, scattered where the tour never lands. He diagnosed a real wound.
G.U Abraham proposed fix is Xilolo, a platform they describe as able to sell tickets to a livestream while stopping viewers from screenshotting or recording it. Davido would still set the price and control access, with the only real workaround being someone filming the screen with a second phone, a risk he already runs at any live show. To head off the concern that streaming would cut into ticket sales, they point to The Experience, the free annual gospel concert run by Lagos’s House on the Rock church, which draws a massive in-person crowd and still streams free on YouTube and Instagram every year.
Davido has built an empire, and for most of his day one fans they have never attended his tour. Abraham didn’t invent that problem, he brought a solution. The “70 percent” might be invented but the feeling beneath it is not. Some will crown him the voice of the overlooked fan, others will call him a man using Davido’s name as a billboard. The honest answer is that he is a bit of both and that the truth about whether Davido should stream the next tour matters a great deal more than who gets credit for asking the question.
