Nigerian military forces, operating under the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, have successfully raided and dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Plateau State. The operation, which took place in the Heipang District of the Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, was conducted based on credible intelligence.
During the raid, a suspected weapon fabricator was arrested, while other members of the syndicate fled before the troops arrived. A thorough search of the illegal factory led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including:
- Twelve assorted fabricated weapons
- One fabricated pistol
- Nineteen rounds of PKT ammunition
- Twelve cartridges
- Ten rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition
- Ten rounds of 9 mm ammunition
- Four rounds of 7.62 mm (NATO)
- One smoke grenade
The military’s spokesman, Major Samson Zhakom, confirmed that the arrested suspect and the recovered items are in custody for further investigation. He added that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing members of the criminal syndicate.
This operation is part of the military’s continuous efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunition, which has been a major contributor to insecurity in the region. The military has urged the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to aid their ongoing security operations.
