Stakeholders in the Kwara South Senatorial District have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the performance of their federal lawmakers, accusing them of poor and ineffective representation.
The criticism was voiced during a strategic consultation meeting held in Ilorin under the banner of the Kwara South Development Initiative. The stakeholders, which included traditional rulers, community leaders, and concerned citizens, alleged that the lawmakers—including Deputy Senate Leader Lola Ashiru and two members of the House of Representatives—have failed to deliver tangible projects or positively impact their constituents’ lives.
The Olupo of Ajase-Ipo, Oba Mohammed Bolaji Alebiosu, who spoke on behalf of traditional rulers in the zone, lamented that the legislators have shown no genuine interest in the people and often fail to attend community events. He warned that the electorate would remember this poor performance during the 2027 polls.
The conveners of the meeting also expressed disappointment that despite the district having produced five senators and numerous House of Representatives members since 1999, there is little to show for it in terms of development.
In response, the Kwara State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Sunday Fagbemi, acknowledged that the performance has been below expectations. He assured the stakeholders that the party would now thoroughly screen aspirants to avoid fielding non-performing candidates in future elections.
