NIGERIAN SOLDIER SENTENCED TO DEATH BY HANGING FOR KILLING A TRICYCLE RIDER

Date:

A Nigerian soldier, identified as Private Lukman Musa, has been sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of a tricycle (Keke) rider, Abdulrahman Isa. The General Court Martial, which delivered the verdict, sat at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State.

The court, presided over by Brigadier General Liafis Bello, found Private Musa guilty of murder, culpable homicide, and unlawful possession of ammunition. The fatal incident reportedly occurred in Azare, a town in Bauchi State, where the soldier shot and killed Isa. The specific details leading up to the shooting have not been made public, but the conviction and severe sentence highlight the Nigerian Army’s firm stance against acts of indiscipline and criminality by its personnel.

This ruling sends a strong message that the military will hold its members accountable for their actions, particularly those that result in the loss of civilian lives. While the death sentence has been handed down, it is subject to a confirmation process by the higher military authorities before it can be carried out.
