BBNaija S10: Uti analyses Faith’s disqualification, warns against bias

Date:

Following the disqualification of Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate, Faith, for a physical altercation with fellow contestant Sultana, media personality and former BBNaija star Uti Nwachukwu has weighed in on the incident.

Faith was disqualified on Thursday, just three days before the season’s grand finale, after an argument with Sultana during a group task rehearsal escalated.1 Reports indicate that Faith’s actions led to Sultana sustaining a twisted ankle and a hand injury. The show’s rules have a strict “zero tolerance” policy on violence, and Faith’s conduct was deemed a violation.2

Uti Nwachukwu took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to analyze the situation, cautioning against a one-sided perspective. While acknowledging that Faith could have handled the situation better, he argued that a “trigger is just as grave as a reaction.” He criticized the tendency to label the person who provokes a conflict as a victim while demonizing the person who reacts, even without physical violence.

He stated, “It is incredibly narcissistic to label the one who triggered/created/fueled the situation a victim and then label the one who reacted (without hitting the other) – an Abuser.” Uti, a past winner of Big Brother Africa, urged viewers to analyze the entire situation rather than relying on short internet clips.

This is not the first time a BBNaija housemate has been disqualified for violence.3 Past seasons have seen housemates like Tacha, Erica, and Beauty disqualified for similar infringements of the show’s rules.4
