The Sokoto State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Ibrahim Adare, has called on local government chairmen and community stakeholders across the 23 local councils to take the ongoing integrated measles and rubella immunisation campaign seriously, describing it as a vital step toward safeguarding the lives of children in the state.
Recalled that the state government, in collaboration with developmental partners, flagged off a ten-day immunisation drive across the state to tackle rubella, measles, polio, among others.
Speaking with newsmen in Sokoto on Tuesday, Adare said the campaign was designed to protect children from preventable diseases, urging parents and caregivers to ensure their wards are vaccinated.
“The campaign is an attempt to protect our children in the state. The simplest and most effective way to keep them safe from these diseases is through vaccination,” he said.
The commissioner emphasised the need for full participation and cooperation from all local government officials, traditional leaders, and community influencers to ensure a successful exercise.
“I want to encourage the chairmen of the 23 local governments and all other stakeholders to take this campaign seriously, participate effectively, and provide all the necessary support required to ensure that our children are vaccinated and protected,” Adare stated.Related News

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sustaining collaboration with the Ministry of Health to overcome any operational challenges that may arise during the exercise.
According to him, the Ministry for Local Government Affairs has been working closely with the Ministry of Health to provide logistics and technical support needed for the immunisation campaign.
“Recently, we supported the Ministry of Health with freezers for vaccine storage and other related medications.
“We will continue to collaborate and support them to deliver on their responsibilities, because their work is our work,” he added.
The commissioner assured that the state government remains determined to strengthen inter-ministerial cooperation to ensure that every eligible child in Sokoto State receives the life-saving vaccines.
