Wike backs Tinubu till 2031, dismisses 2027 presidential ambition rumour

Date:

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has publicly dismissed circulating rumors suggesting he harbors a presidential ambition for the 2027 elections, instead reiterating his firm commitment to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidency until the expected end of his two-term tenure in 2031.1

The rumors, which surfaced across various online platforms, alleged that certain political figures within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Wike’s political base, were lobbying for him to contest for the presidency in 2027.2

Wike’s Response:

  • Unequivocal Denial: Wike’s media team swiftly and formally refuted the reports, describing them as “another lie from idle minds who have nothing to contribute to the development of the country.”3
  • Commitment to Tinubu: The FCT Minister affirmed his unwavering support for President Tinubu, signaling his endorsement for the President’s re-election bid in 2027, which would keep the current administration in power until 2031.4
  • Focus on Governance: The denial sought to reinforce Wike’s current role as FCT Minister, positioning him as a committed public servant focused on implementing Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” through infrastructure development in Abuja, rather than political posturing.5

Wike’s clear stance attempts to stabilize the current political atmosphere and underscores his strong political alliance with President Tinubu, which has been a major factor in Nigerian politics since the 2023 general election.6
