The two African countries that have not recognized a Palestinian state are Cameroon and Eritrea.
Why They Don’t Recognize Palestine
Cameroon: Cameroon’s stance is largely due to its close relationship with Israel. The country’s president, Paul Biya, has long considered Israel a strong ally and has relied on Israeli elite forces for his personal security. This long-standing strategic alliance has influenced Cameroon’s diplomatic position, making it an outlier on the African continent regarding Palestinian statehood.
Eritrea: Eritrea’s reasons are less clear. The country has a complex and often strained relationship with many international bodies and other nations. It has been a strong supporter of its own sovereignty and has a history of political isolation, which likely plays a role in its non-recognition of Palestine.
It is important to note that the vast majority of African nations have officially recognized the State of Palestine.
